Farewell the Dagenham Dustbin.

Ford are about to announce the end of production of the Fiesta. Chances are most here have had one at one time or another.

The Private Life of The Ford Cortina
Brilliant documentary, especially Alexis Sayle interviewing John McVicar 19:46 mins. "After you've rammed with the Cortina you getaway in the Jag - classy like...."

My first car was an E reg. MK11 Cortina with a metal dashboard and when the keys touched it, it would send sparks everywhere. Left it in a ditch and never told the DVLA. That was 40 years ago. If it is still there, it will classified as a barn find.
Second Ford was a MK111 escort, 1300cc Cabrilot, rare as fuck as only 136 were ever made. Advertised it in on Auto Trader and recieved 150 calls on the first day. Sold it for fuck all as didn't realise the value.
I love Fords from sixties. Wish I could have any model from that period

So there is something bitter-sweet about the recent 50th birthday of the Ford Cortina, the fabled Dagenham Dustbin of bypass and nudge-nudge fame. The 1962 Cortina was the most commercially successful British car of all time. The 1959 Mini was more technologically advanced, but shrewdly cost-conscious Ford stripped one down and determined it could never be built at a profit because of its complexity. Instead, it built the simple but psychologically sophisticated Cortina. Ford did not make much fuss about the Cortina’s half-centenary since the timing was bad: just three weeks ago it announced the end of all vehicle assembly in Britain. In every sense, it is true to say of the Ford Cortina that we will never see its like again.

My first car was a Y reg MK1 Fiesta and it was 11 years old when I bought it! Didn't even understand what a manual choke was when I got it.

You got a brand new car with nothing in it and only one wing mirror? Did you steal it straight from the factory?

Yep, sold it for £500 as I'd been given a company car, if only I'd been Captain Hindsight...

I've had 4 of them... first was a brand new one I bought in 1987... 950 Popular... Red... had NOTHING inside what so ever... no radio nothing (had to put my own one in) also only had one wing mirror... first day out in it I had some cunt open the door on to mine... and then fucked off... nice dent... had the car 3 hours... not really a shag wagon as I found out the numerous times I fell out the car with cramp... later got done drink driving in it about 8 months later... so sold it and went to the US...
My other three Fiestas were less dramatic....
